Thesis: The United States of America was justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because it put an end to the war (which could have lasted years), saved lives of both Japanese and Americans and significantly showed their exponential growth of attack compared to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which became a warning to other countries such as the USSR.
Take out what's in parenthesis. The last part is a bit wordy. Try this:

The atomic bombs were justified because the Japanese were showing no signs of surrender. During the battles of every island that we took from them, they were fanatical, often fighting to the last man; never surrendering. If we have had to invade their home island, it was estimated that we would have lost roughly two million of our soldiers and casualties.

After the United States suffered severe losses from Japan's retaliation on Pearl Harbor, the United States felt that it was necessary to drop the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs to possibly end the conflicts between the two countries.

Although many lives were lost in Pearl Harbor, the atomic bombs left more devastation and much more civilian casualties. Japan also had to live in a radiated environment for the next several years that followed, which led to cancer and birth problems for children.
The thesis looks good. You might consider omitting the last sentence (Japan also had to live in a radiated environment for the next several years that followed, which led to cancer and birth problems for children).

The United States wasn't justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because the bombings were no material of assistance to the war against them. The Japanese were defeated and ready to surrender. We adopted an awful ethical standard after the horrific bombings and the effects of them. War can not be won by killing innocent civilians.

The United States was not justified in the droppings of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because we did not think through the repercussions of the bombings; such as the arms race/Cold War, and the thousands dead and even more injured or poisoned. Furthermore, the sites bombed were civilians, and there is and was no justification in killing civilians in a war that is almost over. Lastly, the only reason they had to retaliate was Pearl Harbor, and that was provoked by cutting off Japan's oil and scrap metal, two large necessities to maintain function within Japan.

America was justified in dropping the bombs in that, it saved American lives, and helped end the war, which means that the U.S. now has the right to defend itself from the Japanese, who surrendered after the second bombing.
Clarify that it is the atomic bombs, because the U.S. dropped a lot of bombs on Japan. You can also be a bit more concise.

United States' actions were unjustified when they dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. The reasons for that are the deaths that followed the atomic blast. The bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed thousands of pople in compare to the small amout hurt at Pearl Harbor. Therefore, the Americans should have found a better tactic for self defense rather then killing inoccent civilians and seperating Japanese families.

The US was justified in dropping both atomic bombs on Japan because of the sly tactics the Japanese used against the US by holding negotiations to maintain peace right before the attack on Pearl Harbor and then sending in a formal reply the next day after the attack with no threat or hint of armed attack. Therefore, the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima was necessary to counter the deceptive deeds of the Japanese and the second on Nagasaki justified because of Japan’s refusal to capitulate after a fair warning from the US, who hoped to prevent the death of many citizens in both countries.

Some would argue that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were civilian targets. The second part of your thesis is correct.

ReplyDeleteI believe that President Truman's decision to bomb Japan was not justified because there are other ways to end a war and they killed innocent citizens, and also ruined a lot of their buildings and homes.
Based on the reasearch I have done, I believe that the U.S. was justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The U.S. was dragged into a war that they planned on staying out of because of the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. The U.S. was believed to be at peace with the Japanese. Another factor that is overlooked is that if the U.S. would of invaded Japan, it was predicted that millions of American lives would be lost. The U.S. had no choice but to drop the atomics bombs. As a result many American lives were spared and the Emperor of Japan was forced to surrender.
